Homemade Cocktail Sauce Recipe is the perfect recipe to make your seafood taste divine.  Why buy jarred sauce when you can easily make your own that tastes even better?

“When some people look at a shrimp they think, “Hmm. Delicious.” When I look at a shrimp I think, “You’re a miracle, absolutely incredible. Your ancestors have gone back hundreds of millions of years.” And to develop a thing as simple as a shrimp cocktail, you have to calculate the hundreds of millions of years that have preceded that moment where you’re sitting there with your sauce and fork poised.” – Sylvia Earle

Homemade Cocktail Sauce Recipe

This recipe has the right combination of ingredients that makes it the perfect sauce that tastes amazing without being too strong.

Personally, I like to add a little bit more grated horseradish – but I love it a bit more spicier.  Use this recipe as a base and then adjust it to you and your family’s tastes.

Don’t you just love recipes that are so simple to make, yet taste delicious?  This one is it.

I found this recipe in a vintage cookbook called Cooking for Comfort.  You can find a copy of it here on Amazon.

I know a couple that shared a shrimp cocktail with each other on their first date.  Every anniversary they go to a new restaurant and have a shrimp cocktail and toast their relationship.

Since you love to cook, I’m guessing you like all things cozy living. I created a Facebook group called Creating a Cozy Life with over 9,000 like-minded souls.

It’s a group where we share recipes, pictures of things that leave you in awe, and ideas on how to make your life just a little bit more snug.  Join here to be part of the virtual cozy cabin.

This recipe is enough sauce for one pound of shrimp.

What goes in Cocktail Sauce?

Six simple ingredients.  Chili sauce, ketchup, grated horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce.

Is Homemade Cocktail Sauce gluten free?

If you use the right Worcestershire sauce, cocktail sauce is gluten free.  You can find a gluten free Worcestershire sauce here on Amazon.

You will also have to do research on the ketchup you use.  Most of the big name brands are gluten free.

Is this Cocktail Sauce with Horseradish Keto friendly?

It depends on what type of ketchup you use.  If you use a keto-friendly ketchup like this one, it is.

Tips for making homemade cocktail sauce:

1) This is a base recipe.  Feel free to add more grated horseradish or hot sauce if you prefer a spicier taste.

2) A simple garnish like a lemon rose helps elevate the dish and is super simple to make.

3) Add slices of lemon and garnish the shrimp with either chives, Italian parsley, or dill.

How long does homemade cocktail sauce last in the refrigerator?

This easy cocktail sauce can last up to a week in the refrigerator if properly stored.

What goes great with cocktail sauce?

1) Shrimp cocktails of course.

What’s cocktail sauce without some shrimp?  Regular shrimp or prawns are the perfect combination with this yummy sauce.

2) Other seafood.

Fried calamari and fried oysters are just some of the possibilities to accent your cocktail sauce.  Cooked crab would also taste even more amazing with a little cocktail sauce.

It also goes well with fish and chips.

3) Vegetables.

Deep-fried mushrooms and baked breaded zucchini dipped in this sauce would be yummy.  You could also mix the sauce with some mayonnaise for a delicious dip.

4) Shrimp cocktail block of cheese.

My mom told me about an appetizer they used to serve at her bridge parties.  You simply take a block of cream cheese and pour cocktail sauce over the top.  Add mini shrimp to the top and add some crackers and you have a yummy appetizer.
