“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”
Marcus Aurelius
Mornings can be crazy, but they don’t have to be with these simple ideas.
Do you remember summers when you were a child and couldnโt wait to get up in the morning to start your day full of adventure?
There were trees to climb, bikes to ride, and forts to build. Now, getting up with that pep in your step can be a bit more difficult.
You know how one bad thing happens, and it becomes that proverbial thread that unravels the entire day?
Get a jump on the day by incorporating hygge ideas and setting a positive tone for the rest of the day by becoming more optimistic, grateful, and positive.
Creating a Cozy Life Group

Itโs a group where we share recipes, pictures of things that leave you in awe, and ideas on how to make your life just a little bit more snug. Join here to be part of the virtual cozy cabin.
“Every morning you rise, I want you to remember this: there are amazing things to be part of, and fight for, and feel, because the world will unlock hundreds of doors when you give this day all the courage, love, and intensity you can.”
Victoria Erickson – author, Edge of Wonder
1. Stretch
While lying in bed, stretch every part of your body. Stretching has a calming effect on the body and mind, and it increases blood flow.
Stretching also helps your muscles perform better throughout the day, and nutrients have easier access to nourish them. Your energy levels will also improve with daily stretching.
To really improve your day, set your phone to remind you to stretch throughout the day.
2. Pray
Mornings can be hectic, and our minds can be overwhelmed by the number of things we need to accomplish throughout the day.
Starting each day with a morning prayer will set our intention to be God-centered rather than reacting to what each 24-hour period brings.
“Do not have your concert first and tune your instruments afterward. Begin the day with God.”
Hudson Taylor
Ask God to guide you on your day’s path to make the right decisions for both business and personal. Pray for the safety of your loved ones and yourself.
You can also give thanks for all the blessings in your life. Naming some of the things you are grateful for is one of the most important things you can do to have a positive outlook on the world.
3. Mindful Shower
While showering, listen to beautiful music and use body soaps naturally scented with essential oils. To change things up, have a body wash fragrance to compliment the season you’re in.
For spring, wash up with lavender, rose, or jasmine. In summer try basil, citrus, or lemongrass. Fall fragrances are pumpkin, cinnamon, and apple. For winter try peppermint, chocolate, or grapefruit.
4. Sip Tea
Make yourself drink a cup of hot tea or water with lemon slowly. Your body has gone 8 hours every night without any fluids, so it’s essential to hydrate again immediately.
With each sip, give thanks to one thing in your life you’re grateful for and keep the image of it in your mind for a minute.
Years ago, I went into a tea shop where they recommended a tea that tasted like root beer. I had saved the package and forgot about it. I recently found it and ordered it on Amazon.
5. Creativity
Awaken your creative powers first thing in the morning and spend a few minutes working on an innovative project.
Your creative project can be as simple as writing a paragraph on a story you’ve been working on or finishing a small painting section.

When you start your day by tapping into creative flow first thing in the morning, you energize the rest of your awake hours.
6. Light a Flame
Light a candle and bless one person in your life every day. Think about how this person has impacted your life positively and the lessons you’ve learned from them.
Sending good thoughts out into the world is always a hygge thing to do.
7. Walking
Set your alarm a little earlier so you can walk out into nature.
Sometimes, the entire day goes by without connecting with Mother Earth, so it’s time to pencil her in.
One of the benefits of walking each morning is that no matter how busy each day gets, you know you’ve already given your body a workout.
Walking every morning will also help you get a more restful sleep, so you awake refreshed and have enough energy to get you through the day.
A minimum of 30 minutes daily will help keep your heart healthy by lowering blood pressure and improving blood circulation.
8. Nourish
Make sure you feed your body the finest ingredients you can afford. There’s a world of difference between opening a packaged breakfast item versus making your own meal from scratch.
If you’re making eggs, try getting local organic eggs straight from the farm. Shave off some aged parmesan cheese and add freshly cut chives for heavenly scrambled eggs.
You can make homemade yogurt and pick berries from your garden. Drizzle it with honey, and you make a masterpiece.
Steel-cut oats, topped with almond milk, walnuts, and brown sugar, will make your belly happy.
9. Listen
Listen to inspiring teachers on your way to work or while running errands. They will help you feel centered and happy when you arrive at your destination.
Thought leaders like Wayne Dyer, Maya Angelou, and Jack Canfield are just some ideas for inspirational speakers.

10. Look at Your Vision Board
Hopefully, youโve created a vision board for what you want to see in your life.
A vision board is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep your goals a priority. You can create a poster and cut out pictures of the life that awaits you.
I created a private Pinterest board that I look at to get centered on my goals.
Spend some time every morning reviewing your vision board and keeping those goals with you during your busy schedule.
11. Surprise your Loved Ones with a Treat
Everyone loves a meaningful small gift. You can put a card on your husbandโs visor or sneak a treat in your childโs coat pocket to find later.
The anticipation of your loved one finding their surprise will brighten your day.
12. Evoke all Your Senses
Ensure you use all five senses before driving off to work or doing errands in your car.
- Touch something soft and luxurious, or pet your cat goodbye.
- Listen to beautiful music or the birds as youโre getting ready.
- Look for gorgeous blooms in your garden, or pick up a piece of fruit and absorb every detail.
- Taste something decadent, like gourmet tea or a single strawberry with homemade whipped cream.
- Smell your freshly brewed coffee or add a few drops of essential oil to water in a spray bottle, and mist your car before taking off.
13. Awaken a Happy Memory
Before starting your car each morning, think about a moment in life that made you smile.
It could be a special moment with one of your children or a recent compliment paid to you.
Visualize your happy memory and then keep that warm thought throughout the day.
14. Imagine Your Day
Give yourself an extra five minutes in bed and imagine how you would like your day to go.
View the day from your higher self and picture yourself getting the most out of every hour. After doing this day after day, your days will start lining up with your vision.
15. Quote of the Day
Pick an inspirational quote to be your mantra for the day and think about how you can use the wisdom to enhance your life.
16. Nature Sounds
Listening to nature sounds music as you prepare for the day can be a deeply soothing and invigorating morning ritual.
As the gentle melodies of chirping birds, rustling leaves, or flowing water fill your space, they create a serene atmosphere that helps ease you into the day with a sense of calm and tranquility.
These natural sounds can help you feel more connected to the world around you, even if you are indoors.
17. One Question
In 2005, Steve Jobs gave a commencement address at Stanford. He said one of the keys to his success was, for 33 years, the question he asked himself in the mirror every day. The question was:
“If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?”
What if we each took 5 minutes out of our mornings to ask ourselves that question? How would our lives change? It’s something to think about.
18. Natural Environment
Someone I know has a house full of plants. Every morning, she takes the time to water some of them and trim off dead leaves.
She feels that taking quiet time to care for the plants centers her heart and calms her mind.
Magical days are again attainable with just a few changes to your morning rituals.
19. Dance Party
Starting your day with a mini dance party is an exhilarating and joyous morning ritual that can set a vibrant tone for the entire day. When you wake up, put on your favorite upbeat music and let the rhythm move you.
Dancing freely in the comfort of your home, without judgment or inhibition, releases endorphins that instantly boost your mood and energy levels.
This lively activity not only invigorates your body but also clears your mind, making you feel more alert and ready to tackle the day’s challenges.
20. Start with Poetry
Imagine how different the world would be if everyone started their day with a page of beautiful poetry.
Just like cream stirred into your morning coffee makes everything better, a few paragraphs of poetry adds a richness to your day.
One of my favorite books on poetry can be found on Amazon. It has 200 poems that will make you look at the world in a little brighter way.
21. Sunlight Bathing
Sunlight bathing as a morning ritual is a serene and rejuvenating practice that harnesses the sun’s energy to invigorate your mind and body.
By spending a few minutes each morning soaking in the gentle rays of the early sun, you can significantly boost your mood and energy levels.
This ritual provides a vital dose of vitamin D, essential for bone health and immune function, and helps regulate your circadian rhythm, promoting better sleep and well-being.
As you sit or stand in a sunny spot, close your eyes and feel the warmth on your skin, close your eyes and feel the warmth on your skin.
This mindful moment of sunlight exposure can enhance your sense of presence and gratitude, grounding you in the beauty of the present moment.
22. Plan the Day
Outlining your top three priorities and planning your day is a morning ritual to help you stay focused and productive.
By clearly defining the priorities of the day, you can maintain a balanced approach to your responsibilities and achieve a sense of control and purpose.
23. Play a Musical Instrument
Incorporating playing a musical instrument into your morning brings a unique blend of tranquility and creativity to the start of your day.
You can dedicate a few moments to playing your favorite instrument, whether it’s the piano, guitar, or flute. This practice sharpens your musical skills and serves as a meditative exercise, clearing your mind and setting a positive tone for the day.
24. Practice Breathwork
Dedicating a few minutes to focused breathing exercises can enhance your mental clarity and reduce stress.
Techniques like deep diaphragmatic breathing, alternative nostril breathing, or the 4-7-8 method can help regulate your nervous system, increase oxygen to your brain, and ground you in the present moment.
25. Photograph the Sunrise
Photographing the sunrise as a morning ritual can infuse your day with awe and inspiration. Sunrise presents a unique spectacle, with varying hues of pink, orange, and gold painting the sky. It offers a daily reminder of nature’s beauty and the promise of a new beginning.
By dedicating time each morning to capture this fleeting moment, you cultivate a mindful practice that encourages you to be present and appreciative of the simple wonders around you.
26. Read a Random Book Passage
Open a book to a random page and read a passage for inspiration. Each morning, as you flip open a book to an unexpected page, you are greeted with new ideas and stories that can inspire and invigorate your mind.
Reading random passages introduces a moment of quiet reflection, allowing you to ponder the serendipitous selection and its relevance to your life.
27. Explore Local History
Researching and reading about a piece of local history each morning can transform your perception of your community and deepen your connection to the place you call home.
By delving into the stories, events, and personalities that have shaped your local area, you gain a richer understanding of its unique history.
Whether exploring the origins of a historic building, uncovering the tales of past residents, or learning about significant local events, each morning’s discovery adds a new layer to one’s appreciation of one’s surroundings.
28. Write Down Your Dreams
Writing down your dreams in the morning can unlock the hidden depths of your subconscious and provide a fascinating glimpse into your inner world. As soon as you wake, taking a few moments to jot down the details of your dreams helps capture the vivid imagery and emotions before they fade.
The practice of writing down your dreams not only enhances your memory and understanding of recurring themes or symbols in your dreams, but also promotes self-awareness and personal growth.
Over time, maintaining a dream journal can reveal patterns and insights that might inform your waking life, offering guidance or highlighting unresolved issues.
