Fresh peaches give this barbecue sauce a seasonal twist, while bourbon adds depth that makes it feel a little more special than an everyday bottled sauce. It can be prepared ahead and kept in the refrigerator, making it easy to add homemade flavor to summer cookouts, weeknight dinners, and backyard gatherings.

The sauce has a rich balance of fruity sweetness, tangy vinegar, savory depth, and gentle heat. The peaches soften the sharper flavors without making the sauce taste overly sweet, while the bourbon leaves behind subtle caramel and vanilla notes as it cooks.

Ingredients

  • Peaches – create the naturally sweet, fruity base of the BBQ sauce.
  • Avocado oil – helps soften the onions and garlic without overpowering the other flavors.
  • Sweet onions – add mild sweetness and savory depth.
  • Garlic – brings a warm, aromatic flavor to the sauce.
  • Light brown sugar – enhances the peaches and adds rich caramel notes.
  • Apple cider vinegar – provides the tangy acidity needed to balance the sweetness.

  • Worcestershire sauce – deepens the sauce with savory umami flavor.
  • Red pepper flakes – add a subtle touch of heat.
  • Prepared mustard – contributes tanginess and a gentle mustard bite.

How to Make It

Note: This is a quick overview of the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete ingredient list, exact measurements, and step-by-step instructions.

Step 1. Add the peaches to a food processor and blend until completely smooth. Measure out 3 cups of peach puree and reserve it for the sauce.

Step 2. Warm the avocado oil in a Dutch oven or large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the onion and garlic, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Take the pot off the burner before adding the peach puree, brown sugar, vinegar, bourbon, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes. Stir well, then place the pot back over the heat.

Step 3. Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, then lower the heat. Simmer uncovered for 30–40 minutes, stirring periodically, until the sauce has reduced and reached a thick, spoonable consistency.

Step 4. Remove the pot from the heat and mix in the mustard and salt. Allow the peach bourbon BBQ sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight, nonreactive container.

Recipe Tips

  • Choose ripe peaches. Soft, fragrant peaches provide the best natural sweetness and peach flavor.
  • Measure the puree. You’ll need 3 cups of peach puree for the proper flavor and consistency.
  • Remove the pot from the burner before adding the bourbon. This keeps the alcohol away from the open flame and reduces the risk of flare-ups.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot. It distributes the heat evenly and helps prevent the sugary sauce from scorching.
  • Simmer the sauce uncovered. This allows excess liquid to evaporate so the BBQ sauce can thicken.
  • Stir more frequently as it reduces. The sauce can stick to the bottom of the pot once it begins to thicken.
  • Remember that the sauce thickens as it cools. Remove it from the heat when it is slightly thinner than your desired final consistency.
  • Adjust the seasoning after cooking. Add more salt, mustard, vinegar, or red pepper flakes once the sauce has finished reducing.
  • Apply it near the end of grilling. The peaches and brown sugar can burn over high heat, so brush the sauce onto meat during the final few minutes of cooking.

Ways to Use Peach Bourbon BBQ Sauce

  • Grilled chicken: Brush it over chicken breasts, thighs, drumsticks, or wings during the final few minutes of cooking.
  • Pork chops: The peach and bourbon flavors pair especially well with juicy grilled or pan-seared pork chops.
  • Pork tenderloin: Use the sauce as a glaze near the end of roasting or grilling.
  • Ribs: Brush it over pork ribs for a fruity alternative to traditional barbecue sauce.
  • Pulled pork: Stir it into shredded pork or serve it alongside pulled pork sandwiches.
  • Burgers: Spread it on beef, turkey, or chicken burgers with sharp cheddar and caramelized onions.
  • Meatloaf: Replace the traditional ketchup topping with peach bourbon barbecue sauce.
  • Ham steak: Brush it over your Brown Sugar Ham Steak during the final few minutes of cooking.
  • Salmon: Use it as a glaze for grilled or oven-roasted salmon.
  • Meatballs: Toss cooked meatballs with the sauce for an easy party appetizer.
  • BBQ pizza: Use it in place of tomato sauce, then add chicken, red onion, bacon, and mozzarella.
  • Baked beans: Stir a few spoonfuls into baked beans for extra sweetness and savory depth.
  • Dipping sauce: Serve it with chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, onion rings, or roasted potato wedges.

Storage

  • Refrigerate: Allow the peach bourbon BBQ sauce to cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container or glass jar. Refrigerate for up to 7 days.
  • Freeze: Freeze the cooled sauce in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Leave a little room at the top of the container because the sauce will expand as it freezes.
  • Thaw: Thaw frozen barbecue sauce overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Reheat: Warm the sauce gently in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally. If it becomes too thick, add a small splash of water until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • Food Safety: Once a portion of sauce has touched raw meat or a basting brush used on raw meat, do not return it to the storage container. Discard any contaminated sauce.
